Leopold

Leopold

Uitgeverij Leopold publishes books for all ages, from toddlers to young adults.

Some of the best known are Kikker (Frog) by Max Velthuijs, Kleine Ezel (Little Donkey) by Rindert Kromhout and Annemarie van Haeringen, Eend (Duck) by Harmen van Straaten and Balotje by Yvonne Jagtenberg. Books from Leopold have won innumerable prizes, including Pencils and Slate-Pencils, and awards from the Children’s Jury. The first ever children’s book from Leopold appeared in 1923, De scheepsjongens van Bontekoe (Bontekoe’s Cabin Boys), the exciting story of a sea journey to the Dutch East Indies. The book is reprinted every few years and has been made into a major film.
