Dieter & Ingrid Schubert
Life and work
Ingrid Schubert and Dieter Schubert are married and work together. In 1977 they attended the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where the well-known Dutch illustrator Piet Klaasse inspired them to start illustrating children’s books. Their first title, There’s a Crocodile Under My Bed!, was an immediate success and published in fourteen countries. In 1987 they were awarded the Golden Paintbrush for Where’s My Monkey?
Mijn Held
Two mice sit on a tree and the tree is high. The mouseboy tells the mousegirl how much he loves her. But the two mice don’t live together and the mouseboy lives on the other side of the world. For his girlfriend he can do anything. The mousegirl likes the mouseboy, too. What should they do so that the boy can often come to see her? They have got an idea. The mouseboy tights ropes between mountains and he can easily walk on the ropes to visit his girlfriend as often as possible. But what should they do with the desert? This is not difficult, either. The mouseboy found a camel and the camel can bring hem through the desert.
When they are talking, the branch is broken. The two mice fall on the ground, and a mean cat stands before them. The mouseboy shouts to his girlfriend: ‘I am going to distract hem, you go!’ The mousegirl goes back to the hole and says: ‘He is so dapper and he is my hero!’
