Athenaeum has been publishing fiction, poetry and non fiction since 1962, specializing in classic authors of all times, both Dutch and foreign.

Our backlist includes Canetti, Casanova, Dante, Elsschot, Erasmus, Homer, Joyce, Kafka, Machiavelli, Montaigne, Multatuli, Petrarca, Rimbaud, Svevo, Tomasi di Lampedusa and many others. Over the last years we have established an excellent reputation with our high quality non fiction list. Bestselling titles on this list are the books by Fik Meijer about ancient history (published in nine countries).
