作家及诗人Bernlef以其作品简约的风格和对作品中人物心理细腻的描写而出名。Bernlef最著名的小说是《恍惚》（Hersenschimmen），讲述了一个患有老年痴呆症的男人渐渐失去掌控生活的能力的故事。《恍惚》是一部感人但同时令人堪忧的作品，揭示了当下越来越多的人面临的疾病所造成的感情及社会方面的后果。《恍惚》的中文译本由人民文学出版社出版发行，Bernlef将就这部作品与作家及文学评论家徐则臣展开讨论。
