Querido

Dutch bookseller Emanuel Querido founded his publishing house in 1915.

Since 2010 Querido is part of Singel 262 Publishers (together with Nijgh & Van Ditmar and Athenaeum Publishers).Throughout the years, Querido has specialized in high-quality Dutch fiction and poetry. Hella S. Haasse, Thomas Rosenboom, Bernlef, Toon Tellegen, Matthijs van Boxsel and Tomas Lieske are only a few of our award-winning authors. In recent years translations of foreign literature have been added to our list. We have recently published Elfriede Jelinek, Edward P. Jones, David Mitchell, Patrick Modiano, Wieslaw Myśliwski, Daniel Kehlmann and Marlene van Niekerk.

Querido Children’s Books

Querido started a children’s book list in 1971, with the publication of Pluk van de Petteflet by Annie M.G. Schmidt and Fiep Westendorp, now an all-time classic. Soon other award-winning authors and illustrators joined Querido, among them Guus Kuijer, Toon Tellegen, Joke van Leeuwen, Hans Hagen, Marit Törnqvist, Francine Oomen, Sieb Posthuma, Bart Moeyaert and Marjolein Hof. Foreign authors and illustrators whose work has recently been published by Querido are David Almond, Aidan Chambers, Timothéé de Fombelle, Cornelia Funke and Shaun Tan.
